The true meaning of Faith

John 14:1-3 New International Version (NIV)

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me, that you also may be where I am.

In the midst of uncertain times like these, our faith is tested. There is the fear of losing a loved one or contracting a virus, creating worry and anxiety. But one thing we can know for sure is that hope and assurance are found in God. When we look at things from a worldly view, things appear daunting but if we will only shift our hope to God, we find hope. When we look at the stories of Job, Hannah, Sarah, and many others who have lived on before us, we come to understand that there is no truly hopeless case. Temporally, it may seem unchangeable but God has the bigger picture. Having this mindset brings us freeing joy.

What do you think of faith?

The famous verse in the eleventh chapter of Hebrews defines faith. That being said, I would like to say that faith is not only required when we have need of something. Faith is a lifestyle of confident assurance in the nature and personality of the Creator. Faith comes easy when you know the one in whom you desire to have faith.

I once heard a man say “Faith should be the rested confidence a little child has that his daddy is the strongest man in the world”. Such a child can boast in who his daddy is just because he has been on his father’s shoulders several times or he’s seen his father lift his mum up and twirl her around the house. The child fears no danger. He knows who his daddy is! Do you know who your Father in heaven is? Haven’t you seen what He has done in times past?

How can I have faith in God?

Romans 10:17 New King James Version (NKJV) So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Faith can only be experienced by spending time in God’s word. We cannot understand God based on philosophical wisdom or theological presuppositions. Our faith is built through a personal relationship with God and an experiential knowledge of His ways. Our duty as Christians is to do what God says to do: believe in what He promises and leave the rest to him. Let God worry about the bigger issues and let’s play our part of being obedient.

Our Lord was fully persuaded that God would not let Him down. As He prepared to offer the greatest sacrifice ever to be made: His life for ours, He prayed, “saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. Luke 22:42 KJVhttps://bible.com/bible/1/luk.22.42.KJV Our Lord trusted in the nature of God the Father. Jesus trusted God the Father to be righteous in His judgment and He committed His life to Him who could deliver Him from death. Shouldn’t we trust God to be righteous and responsible enough to keep us from falling into sin and the weakness of the flesh?

“Now unto Him, that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,”… Jude 1:24 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/jud.1.24.KJV

Conclusion

As we live each day learning and facing trials in life, let us remember that they are meant to strengthen our faith, not to make us fall. With faith in our heavenly Father’s supernatural ability to hold us up and keep is from falling, we are confident that we are overcomers.
