God blesses your work

Ephesians 4:28

“Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.”

Were you once a thief, a swindler, a con man(or woman), or just downright dishonest in your money-making endeavors? If you weren’t, good. If you were, and you have Jesus as your Lord, you are not that anymore. If you are in Christ, you are a seed of Abraham.

“And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” Gal.3:29

What does being Abraham’s seed mean to me?

The Bible says Jesus is Abraham’s seed and so are all the “offspring” of Jesus. Every person who has the Lord Jesus as their Lord is thus a seed of Abraham. This means the promise of the Holy Spirit that was made to Abraham and to his seed is for us who are the offspring of Jesus. Apart from the gift of the Holy Spirit, God gave other blessings to Abraham and to his seed. Gen. 12:1-3

“Now the Lord had said to Abram:

‘Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. I will make your name great, and you shall be a blessing, I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you, and in you, all the families of the earth shall be blessed”

Further in Deut.28, there are several blessings God gave to Abraham. Hence, if you are in Christ Jesus, you are a seed of Abraham. If you are a seed of Abraham, God’s blessing rests on you. This helps us to know that we are not failures because our Father in heaven guides us in the honest work we engage in.

Why should we work?

The blessing of the Lord is expressed in the work of our hands. Here are some reasons why we should work.

God instructs us to work

After God made man, He gave him work to do. God gave the man a responsibility. Prosperity in Christ is not limited to giving. You must work if you want to take care of your family and help those who are in need. God gives a command in His Word that any man who would not work should not eat.

“But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.”
— 1 Timothy 5:8 (KJV) I say God takes this pretty seriously.

God worked

We must work because God Almighty worked. God worked for six days, creating the world he desired us to live in. Gen. 1:1-31. When God came to earth in the body of Jesus Christ, He worked night and day as a carpenter and a teacher. God is not lazy and if we are His children, we must not be lazy.

Abraham worked

Father Abraham is spoken of in the Bible as being rich in gold, in silver, and in cattle. “And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.”
— Genesis 13:2 (KJV). God had blessed him and as he set his hands to rear cattle, he became fruitful in his work. Between the blessing of God that is on you and the blessing that you experience is a gap – your work.

In conclusion, it is important to work, not to enrich ourselves but to create a channel through which God’s blessing on us can be expressed, for the blessing of others. Let’s get to work!
